I've been thinking about the dynamics of the punching technique recently. One thing that has got me wondering is the need to use your whole body in delivering a full impact blow.. Is it actually required? Is the below real?

WORST Kung-Fu Auditions I've EVER Seen!
Hi Guys,
I just found this clip and it has to be the WORST Kung Fu Auditions I've seen.. EVER!
I know I've been away for a while, and I have to tell you, its been painful!
Last couple of weeks we planned to have our ISP changed over to another company only to find out that our original provider disconnected us! Not only that, but our new provider keep losing our wireless router in the mail and still havent activated our line and its been 3 weeks already! :-(
This can't be good.
Right now I've tethered my blackberry to my laptop as a modem and dialling up that way. Its Sooooooo Sloooooow, but at least its a bit better than dial up and it connects almost instantly. Im getting at least 115k bandwidth with it.

What Part of Your Body Moves First When You Throw a Strike?
When you throw a strike, a punch for example, which moves first, your hand or your body?
Many people say the hand moves first and the body follows through.
Watch this!
Like the video, if you've practiced the Silk Reeling exercises of Tai Chi you know that movement begins in the feet and channels upward through the waist and is released through the hand. In other wards, the hand completes the movement, it doesn't begin it.
It's like snapping a towel.
You can generate tremendous force for knockdown punches, but you need to practice correctly or you'll have big problems with telegraphing.

Here's a drill you can do to develop this skill. Stand facing a heavy bag, a target being held by a partner, or any other appropriate surface. You'll eventually want to be able to do this from a fighting stance (though you may not want to move from a "stance" on the street). Now, rotate your body very slightly back and forth. As you do this feel the movement beginning in the feet, moving upward through the legs, continuing through the pelvis, waist and torso, and concluding in the hand. If you do this slowly and pay attention to the timing of your rotations, you'll notice that the hand strikes as the feet are just beginning the next rotation - so they're actually beginning to rotate against the direction of your strike.
As I said, it's like snapping a towel. Experiment with this and see if you can't generate greater, more relaxed striking.
Until next time,

Women and Martial Arts?
Wow am I tired!
I was at training yesterday as I was unable to go the previous two weeks because of university exams.
It was 2 hrs of heart pumping exercise, but I enjoyed it (afterward anyway).
I was speaking with a female friend of mine the otherday who was interested in taking up Martial arts as a hobby. She mentioned that she was going to try out karate and then maybe try a few others to see which one suited her.
I recommended that she try to look for the best martial art that does not require too much offensive aggression i.e. if she faces a bigger stronger opponent, her attempts to defend herself from him/her may not be successful. In other words try not to go for a style that may requier you to go pound for pound against your opponent.
Instead, try to go for something that is passive but affective. Aikido is one that I reccommened I would have mentioned something like Dim Mak, but as I do not know anywhere here in London that may instruct. Plus the issue of whether it is actually possible to perform the strikes as heard of.
before I forget to tell you, CLICK HERE to see my top list of combat Handbooks. I think you'll find very interestig reading
What do you guys think about that? Would I be wrong in my thinking?
Also Please let me know if you have heard of or know of the components of dim mak and if there is anywhere that may instruct. I'd be glad to hear from you!

Welcome to Hiiy Ya! Martial Arts
Hi all! Welcome to my new blog on Martial Arts. Well, among the many things that I do, have practiced a number of Martial Arts from Ju-Jitsu, Iaido, Aikido and currently Wu Shu Kwan (Chinese Kickboxing). I have also trained with some MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) competitors.
My goal here (as I have a number of them), is to promote Martial Arts as a well balanced formula for physical, spiritual and mental discipline. The benefits I have recieved from Martial Arts has been phenominal! Another goal of mine to to become financial free by the 2011.
